A More Comfortable Approach to Cleaning with EMS Airflow

If you find dental cleaning uncomfortable, dislike the scraping sensation, or simply want to understand what other cleaning options are available, EMS Airflow may form part of your professional dental clean.

EMS airflow

At Facial Harmony Skin & Dental in Box Hill, we use EMS Airflow technology to help remove dental biofilm and certain surface stains using a controlled stream of air, water and fine powder.

But Airflow doesn’t replace every other cleaning method.

Your appointment starts with an assessment of your teeth and gums. Depending on what we find, your clean may include EMS Airflow together with other professional cleaning techniques where clinically required.

Our approach is simple: use the cleaning methods appropriate for your mouth, while keeping your comfort in mind throughout the appointment.

Understanding EMS Airflow Technology:

EMS airflow technology is primarily associated with air polishing systems used in dentistry. Unlike traditional methods that involve scraping or manual scaling, air polishing utilises a mixture of air, water, and fine powder particles to clean teeth thoroughly. The fine powder, typically composed of sodium bicarbonate or glycine, is propelled onto the tooth surface with controlled bursts of air and water, effectively removing plaque, stains, and other debris.

Whether EMS Airflow is suitable for you depends on your teeth, your gums and your individual circumstances. Your practitioner will discuss whether it’s an appropriate part of your cleaning.
