Skin Frequently Asked Questions

Facial Harmony Skin & Dental offers skin consultations and a range of non-surgical skin treatments.

Skin services are provided by Registered Nurses within their professional scope of practice. The treatment options discussed with you will depend on your individual concerns, skin characteristics, health and treatment history, and suitability following assessment.

Not every treatment is appropriate for every person, and in some circumstances no treatment or referral to another healthcare professional may be more appropriate.

You can book through our online Skin Booking page or contact our clinic on *(03) 8899 6497* if you would like assistance.

If you are unsure which treatment to book, a skin consultation allows time to discuss your concerns and available options before deciding whether to proceed with treatment.

Our Registered Nurses can assess a range of cosmetic skin concerns, which may include concerns relating to the appearance of skin texture, hydration, visible pores, pigmentation, redness, certain types of scarring, fine lines and skin firmness.

The treatment options that may be appropriate depend on the individual concern and your assessment.

If your concern appears to require medical diagnosis or management outside our practitioners’ scope of practice, we may recommend that you see an appropriate medical practitioner or dermatologist.

All skin treatments have potential risks and side effects. These vary depending on the treatment, area being treated and your individual circumstances.

Before treatment, your practitioner will assess your suitability and discuss relevant risks, expected recovery, limitations, aftercare and alternative options.

For procedures with more significant risks, further information about risks and recovery is provided on the relevant treatment page and during the consultation process.

Individual experiences, recovery and outcomes vary.

There is no single treatment frequency that is appropriate for everyone.

Whether further treatment is appropriate, and the timing between treatments, depends on the treatment being considered, your skin, treatment goals, response and individual assessment.

Your practitioner will discuss this with you rather than assuming that everyone requires a set number of sessions or ongoing treatment.

It can be helpful to provide information about:

* your skin concerns and treatment goals
* your relevant medical history
* medications and supplements you currently take
* allergies
* current skincare products
* previous skin or cosmetic treatments
* any previous reactions or complications
* pregnancy or breastfeeding, where relevant

Please do not stop or change prescribed medication unless advised to do so by the healthcare professional responsible for your care.

Your Registered Nurse may provide additional preparation instructions if a particular treatment is being considered.

Coverage depends on your individual health fund, level of cover and the service being provided.

Many cosmetic skin treatments are not covered by private health insurance.

We recommend checking directly with your health fund if you are unsure whether a particular service is eligible for a rebate. Facial Harmony Skin & Dental cannot guarantee that a health fund will provide a rebate.

Treatment time and recovery vary considerably depending on the procedure, area being treated and individual response.

Some treatments may cause temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, sensitivity or other effects, while other procedures may involve different or longer recovery.

The relevant treatment page provides more specific information about expected risks and recovery. Your practitioner will also discuss what may reasonably be expected in your circumstances before treatment.

Yes. During a skin consultation, your Registered Nurse can assess your skin and discuss skincare or treatment options that may be appropriate for your individual concerns.

Recommendations are based on assessment rather than a standard treatment plan. Depending on your circumstances, this may include home skincare, in-clinic treatment, monitoring, referral to another healthcare professional, or no treatment.
